this is a very common problem among windows programs...
hate to see it in unix.
open a dialog box, you can't do **** in the main program.
for instance, i opened the newsgroup subscribe dialog, and then wanted to
go back in the browser to see what the group was called. no luck.
another occurance is in mail filters, open that dialog can't do **** in the
other windows, not even its parent!
this is a huge annoyance for me. couldn't find a bug anywhere. hope i didn't
make a dupe.

This is a dup of half a dozen separate bugs, since it's so vague:
bug 59314
bug 55977
bug 65521 (main linux modality issue)
bug 74331
bug 83151 (subscribe dialog)
Refocusing this bug on the mailnews filters dialog, which does not have a bug
yet. Reassigning.

On Windows, the filters dialog isn't modal and I can do other activities in the
mail window while it's up (such as load folders and read messages). I guess
it's different for Linux.

Hmm.... I just tested and the filters dialog is also non-modal here on Linux
(build 2002-01-07-06, AfterStep windowmanager)

Hold on a sec. The filter dialog itself is non-modal. The filter edit/creation
dialog is modal. On Windows, it's only modal to the filter dialog. On Linux
it's modal to the entire application (browser, mailnews, chatzilla, the works)
because of bug 65521. Is there any way to make this add/edit dialog nonmodal?
Summary: Filters dialog should not be modal → Filter add/edit dialog should not be modal

cc jglick, if we want to make add/edit dialog non-modal to the filter
dialog window.
Filter Rules dialog should be modal to the Message Filters dialog. But both
dialogs should not be modal to the Mail window or another other window.

marking dup of bug 65521. I think this problem will be fixed when that bug
gets fixed, i can also reproduce this on linux. win2k works fine for me.
