It's expected because we only support text copy in message app. Image copy/paste is totally another story in message app.

Then the "select text" option should not be appearing when long pressing on a picture. This looks like broken functionality. The carets appear on the picture but doesn't do anything.

If we want to ignore the carets if there's only images inside the message, or not showing the caret around the message, we can focus on Bug 1127648 instead.

Note: Having the ability to paste an image into the textbar tells the user that this feature is available. SUMMARY: Textbar in SMS accepts images inferring to the user that images can be sent this way. Description: When copying an image from a website then opening SMS and pasting into TEXTBAR and adding text, the scenario assumes that this feature is available. When user sends image and text, the recpient will only recieve the text. Repro Steps: 1) On the Aries build 20151203121905 2) long press an image on any website image until get the COPY IMAGE menu. 3) Select COPY IMAGE then go to SMS app. 4) Start a new SMS message and within the text bar press to invoke the paste method. Paste image into textbar. And add text such as CAR, etc... 5) Send image to another device, or PC with receiving email client. Actual: Image is not received only the text. Expected: Either the image is included OR CopyPaste function into text bar shouldn't be available. Steve images can now be pasted into the text box, but are not received by the other device. Not sure which part is wrong, the pasting succeeding or the sending not working, but it might change what needs to be done here.

We have done nothing to support this yet, so it's perfectly expected that it doesn't work. That said, that's right we need to take this into account and work on this as it seems broken. NI Product so that they're aware of this for their roadmap.
