Current linux CVS. 1: Start composing a mail to yourself, subject "test". 2: Choose "File->Attach Web Page" and enter http://זרו as attachment name 3: Click send. A dialog titled "Sending Messages - test" pops up, followed by an alert titled "Confirm" saying: "There was a problem including the file זרו in the message. Would you like to continue sending the message without this file?" Click OK: message is sent without the attachment. Click "get msgs": message arrives. So far - so good. Open a compose window again and repeat steps 1,2,3 above. Result: "Sending Message..." appears, then nothing more happens. The second alert never appears. Wait 3 minutes - still nothing. Try to open a webpage in the browser: Nothing. Dismiss the spinning "Sending Message" alert, close mailcompose. Try to open a newsgroup, or load a webpage from web: All networking is still dead, and Mozilla near a hang: 95-97% CPU. I can Quit from menu, and Mozilla works fine when restarted. I reproduced this three times in a row, so it seems...very reproducable.
actually... testing official build ID 2002022608 Linux, networking there dies already on the FIRST attempt. 98% CPU forever after. "Confirm" alert never appeared.
Summary: networking dies on second attempt to look up invalid domain → networking dies attempting to look up invalid domain
I also got a hang the first time. Debug build complains as follows: ###!!! ASSERTION: not a UTF8 string: 'Error', file nsString2.h, line 669 ###!!! Break: at file nsString2.h, line 669 ###!!! ASSERTION: not a UTF8 string: 'Error', file nsString2.h, line 669 ###!!! Break: at file nsString2.h, line 669 ###!!! ASSERTION: Infinite loop: can't advance a reading iterator beyond the end of a string: 'one_hop>0', file ../../dist/include/string/nsStringIterator.h, line 174 ###!!! Break: at file ../../dist/include/string/nsStringIterator.h, line 174
CC: scc@mozilla.org in case he know what's happening in strings here. Changing summary. Component may be wrong.
Summary: networking dies attempting to look up invalid domain → networking dies attempting to look up invalid domain [ASSERTION in nsString2.h: "not a UTF8 string"]
