This has finally irritated me enough to file a bug on it. Win98 build 2002030908: 1. Right-click a page and select 'Bookmark this Page'. This brings up the Add Bookmark dialog. 2. Click a twisty to open or close a folder in this view. 3. Cancel this view and open the 'Manage Bookmarks' window. Expected results: The opening/closing actions in the Add Bookmark dialog should not affect other views of the same tree. Actual results: Clicking on the twisty in Add Bookmark effectively does the same thing in the Manage Bookmarks window (once it is refreshed). This is really annoying as I like to keep Add Bookmarks expanded in a certain way that is good for filing bookmarks, and keep Manage Bookmarks mostly closed down, and only expand it as needed. The above report lists just one symptom of the problem. It really appears that all views of the tree (Sidebar, Add Bookmark, and Manage Bookmarks, ...) are really one, and any open/close manipulation affects the others.
From bug 68627: I don't think this is a bug. Whichever representation is open last is the representation that wins. "Undefined" *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 68627 ***

Chris, I don't think the decision there applies. That report specifies a behavior that happens when closing the app. This bug was filed for an event that occurs much more regularly, and is much more irritating as a result. The requested behavior in this bug is quite specific and in no way undefined. The only thing that is undefined is the implementation's behavior, which is why it is a bug! ;) The current implementation causes UI brokenness (bug 130213), and has a real chance of being fixed. I can't see any reason why it *shouldn't* be fixed. Reopening.

we need to stop storing state info like open/closed in the RDF datasource (or store _where_ it's opened/closed or something) if we decide to do this...

I filled Bug#130213 which seems to be a duplicate of this behavior.I really think that displaying every bookmark twice IS A BUG.I think every browser instance should have a seperate sidebar-bookmark which does not affect the other browsers sidebar-bookmarks.
