Details

We need a general OO class mechanism to handle LDAP v3 controls. Some example implementations could be password management extensions, and VLV indexes.

This looks like it's related to implementing this for PerLDAP, so I'm gonna reassign to him. At some point, I'll want to do something similar in the XPCOM SDK as well, though not immediately.

Summary: RFE: Support for LDAP v3 Controls → Support for LDAP v3 Controls
Is this meant to get support for the complete LDAP v3 protocoll ? Or just parts of it ? I ask because I took forever to find out, why my OpenLDAP Server didn't show the adressbook in mozilla, until I found out that Mozilla supports only LDAP v2. As LDAP v3 is not new anymore (I think standarized (RFC) around 1999) I really thought Mozilla is capable of handling LDAP v3. Also does anybody know if there is write support planned ? It makes not the most sense to me if I can only read an LDAP adressbook and not write new entries to it. In a Corparate Environment this is less than ideal.
This bug is filed against PerLDAP, which is a perl based API for accessing LDAP servers. It has nothing to do with the Mozilla browser/mail client. Is there a bug open about the Mozilla client addressbook using LDAPv2 instead of v3? I suspect that is just an oversight and would be very easy to fix. If there is no such bug open, please open one.
I've opened: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=198168 for the lack of LDAP v3 support in Mozilla
Thanx, I would have done it myself, but I'm quit busy learning for my exam tomorrow. But there are plenty of bugs left to report, so I get my chance ;-)

If this is still an issue, perhaps it should not be assigned to someone who was last active over 12 years ago. =)
