Bug 1425489 changed the default to 2, so the flashing problem most likely existed before when the default was 1 and user changed it to 2.
k88hudson, I believe you mentioned not wanting to invalidate prerendering even when the number of rows were different than the default, but I don't quite remember the reasoning.
