Build: 2002051005 Intermittently, clicking the Get Msgs button (or cmd-T) is unresponsive. Clicking icon in lower-right to go offline, then clicking again online, resolves this. New bug, not present in fc1 (AFAIK).
The summar here reads "shift-cmd-M opens wrong format mail composition window" but it doesn't seem to correspond with the bug you later report, which is about cmd-T /get msgs button not working? Is the Get Msgs button disabled when this happens? Likely related/duplicate of bug 111102 or bug 113874
Corrected Subject text (previous was erroneous). Thanks for catching.
Summary: shift-cmd-M opens wrong format mail composition window → Get Msgs button is intermittently non-functional
Bugs 111102 and 113874 are *not* like what I am reporting. * I observed that the button and menu item were enabled, but there was no response to clicking it or using cmd-T. No attempt to find server was initiated (previous status such as "document done" remained at the bottom of the window), and no progress bar appeared at the bottom. * By simply and only clicking offline and then back on (lower right icon), the button became functional again. * Note also I am using Mac OS X. * My observations were all with one account and its folders selected (not the local folders). I am trying to reproduce it now.... It is not reproduced by different focusing of selections, or by selecting different accounts, or selecting local folders. I suspect it may have been induced by different ways of bringing Mozilla to the front. If this turns out to be the case, then testing with OS X may be necessary. I will keep experimenting and report any instances of reproduction.
Still not identifying reproducible conditions. However, it was observed again today. In that case, I had brought the app to the front in OS X by clicking on white space to the left of folders in the left pane of the two-pane view... after doing this, the app came to the front, and the inbox was still highlighted in the left pane, and inbox messages in the right. I hit the button Get Msgs (which was NOT grayed out), and saw no response. One other thing that resolves it (in addition to manually clicking offline then online) -- when the app automatically does a periodic "check for messages every X minutes" and makes a sound indicating messages are on the server, this even restores functioning of Get Messages. In other words, I hit Get Msgs, which was not dimmed, and saw no action at the status bar at the bottom of the window. A short time later (in one case, just 10 seconds), a sound was made indicating that messages were found on the server. I hit Get Msgs again, and this time it responded with a download of the messages. I'll keep looking for reproducible conditions.
WorksForMe using FizzillaCFM/2002071808, although sometimes the status bar text will only change for an instant before changing back to "Done", and the throbber doesn't change at all.
Reporter: does this still happen with a recent build ?
1.1a -- still notice this behavior. Affects individual accounts, not entire list of accounts... progress bar seen on one account, no response on another (dialup, so normally is very visible). Infrequent, and not yet able to capture the steps that preceded it, so that it might be reproducible. Will test 1.1b next. -- Jim S.
1.1a is not recent :) Please download a nightly or 1.1b, which is fairly recent.
1.1b -- Observed bug once; but not reproduced on a second try with a different email. Steps: A large email was downloading (contained a PDF). I clicked offline using lower right icon. Clicked again to go back online. clicked "Get msgs" button with no response. Going off/online again did NOT restore functionality. Only method that I found was to quit and relaunch app. Using OS X 10.1.5. PS: I often get "unable to write to mailbox..." messages after I click "get msgs" button. Occurred in main email accound, not in another. Not necessarily related to the subject of this thread; but I observed it after repeating the above steps. Unable to resolve without relaunching app. -- Jim S.
So is this bug fixed now ? If you've got another problem now, please close this bug as WORKSFORME and create a new one (if it's not reported before), using the Bugzilla Helper at <http://www.mozilla.org/quality/help/bug-form.html>.
1.1b -- Able to reproduce. Steps: while downloading an email and observing the solid progress bar, I clicked offline using lower right icon. Clicked again to go back online. clicked "Get msgs" button with no response. Going off/online again does NOT restore functionality. Functionality restored immediately by quitting and relaunching the app; so it is not apparently related to server status. Using OS X 10.1.5. Note that there may be other situations in which the button becomes non-functional. This is just one that I can reproduce. I sometimes have observed it when this situation (interrupting a download) had not occurred, at least to my knowledge. PS: Why is the "Stop" button non-functional in terms of stopping a download?
Jim, using FizzillaCFM/2002072203, I click the offline icon while a message is downloading from my IMAP account, and I then see a dialog, "Do you want to download messages for offline use before you go offline?" Do you see this? What's your response to it? If you don't see this, try reproducing this bug using a new Mozilla user profile.
