Details

I am running Mozilla 1.0, Release Candidate 3. I had previously set up two news servers. One requires a username and password, but the other (att) does not. Still when replying to articles posted through the att news server, I am sometimes asked for a username and password. I found by experimentation that the username and password for the other news server are accepted. For replies that also include e-mail to a specific person, I use an SMTP sever, my office machine. That doesn't require a password, being set up to allow relaying from my home machine. I have removed the other news server, which requires the password, and the problem seems to have gone away. I would rather not add it again, but if anyone has any specific experiment for me to try, I can do that. Unfortunately, the problem was sporadic, so it may not be easy to reproduce.
Please create a new profile for testing purposes. Then, try to reproduce the problem with the new profile. If you could narrow it down to a list of specific steps, that would be great. Thank you for using Bugzilla.

In fact, it's bug 54911 - since when you post, it's trying to go through the AT&T server, and that's why you are getting prompted. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 54911 ***

verified - since the removal of the password-protected server 'fixes' this.
