When you set the about:blank page as the home page and open a new window, it does not load correctly. You can see this a few different ways:

A) The default favicon doesn't load on the tab.

B) If you change the background color setting in the Firefox preferences to something other than the default white, the background of the about:blank page will remain white.

The about:blank page works as expected when used in all other cases, it's just an issue when it opens in a new window.
