Filed from https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/fenix/issues/9170
Steps to reproduce
- Navigate to twitter.com
- Login
- Scroll down quickly
Expected behavior
The Home / Latest Tweets header, navbar, and feather post icon should remain sticky on the screen while scrolling posts into view.
Actual behavior
The header, navbar and post icons disappear, leaving behind an entirely white screen while scrolling.
Device information
- Android device: Pixel 2
- Fenix version: latest nightly - also seeing this in reference browser
See video.
Yeah, I can reproduce this. Not sure if this is WR or Layout or somewhere else. Not reproducible if you scroll slowly.

This is not WR, FYI - I disabled WebRender and I still see the issue.

Could this be a duplicate of (or related to) bug 1664838?

Could this be a duplicate of (or related to) bug 1664838?
No, I just realized that this bug is much older. Sorry for the noise.

Can you reproduce in geckoview example, Asif? Would you be able to run mozregression on it?

Jamie, unfortunately, I can't currently test via mozregression on the Pixel, although I am able to reproduce the issue on a Moto G XT1031 from a gve build on the earliest day it is possible to - 2019-11-07.
You also don't need to be logged in to see this issue - just scroll quickly on a page like https://mobile.twitter.com/JoshKurp/status/1309484669709234176 - the screen will go white, I can reproduce this on multiple devices.

Oh great, saves me creating an account.
Interesting it reproduces on the oldest GVE build. I guess I'll see if i can reproduce on fennec to get an earlier regression range. Thanks!

FWIW, I wasn't able to reproduce with the latest Fennec (2019-05-17) on the Moto G device. The last Fennec release also doesn't show the issue on my Pixel 2.

I'm pretty sure the content disappearing isn't actually gecko checkerboarding, I think it's twitter's infinite scroll not loading new content in time. It's easy to make this happen in chrome too.
The fixed-position header disappearing, which seems more like an actual bug rather than just a performance thing, is a regression from bug 1529892. Botond, do you know what causes this to happen?

Sounds like bug 1664101, which I'm working on a fix for.
