I would like to propose a system for Mozilla similar to Haxial's bribe system
(http://haxial.com/bribe/). Basically, how it works is that people report a
bug/request a feature and attach a certain amount of money to it. Haxial then
implements the feature and accepts the money. In Mozilla, perhaps people could
attach money to bugzilla reports. Whoever fixes it gets the money. This would
be moderated by a senior Mozilla guy.
If this was implemented, it would provide more of an incentive to fix bugs and
implement feature requests. I know I would attach $10 to a few serious bugs
that I would like to see fixed. They would immediately get more attention. I'm
sure they'd get fixed by the next release. This would also get more people
involved in Mozilla development. I know that I personally would try to become
familiar with Mozilla programming and maybe make a few quick bucks while helping
the community at the same time.
Everyone would benefit! The programmers would benefit since they'd get to
pocket some money for their efforts, the Mozilla Project would benefit through
the gain of more programmers who are attracted to this idea, and the end users
would obviously benefit because more bugs and features would be fixed and they
could have more of an influence over the bugs/features they want fixed/implemented.
