Steps to reproduce:

On IMAP server account with multiple folders and with delete configured to "Just mark it as deleted". There are are deleted messages on folders.

Selected File, Compact Folders.

Actual results:

Nothing. Message
"Done compacting (approx 0 KB saved)"
appears on status bar, but all deleted messages remain in message list

Expected results:

Deleted messages are expunged from all folders of selected account. Currently this can only be achieved in version 102 by selecting folders one by one and right clicking on folder and selecting Compact.
Problem appears on three different servers

Did I not see a bug about this already today?

Bug 1776727 looks remarkably similar.
Bug 1130277 is for those using maildir, but also involved expunge of IMAP folders in compact.
Bug 1777250 is maintaining compact just does not work.

Quite possible has something to do with the cleanup and simplification in Bug 1756520
