In Address Book
Applies to : Vertical and Horizontal view
Attempt to perform copy contact into a pre created mailing list where contact is already in associated address book.
Attempt to perform a copy contact to another address book.
Attempt to perform a move contact to another address book
If the address book already has at least one Mailing List:
Right click should offer menu option 'Add to' and select a Mailing List
Right click should offer 'Copy to' and 'Move to' and choose an existing address book. It should not contain the address book the contact is currently within.
Method to perform this via mouse or keyboard.
Actual Result:
- Select address book to show contacts.
- Right click on contact to see drop down menu options.
- Write
- Edit
- Delete
Access via mouse or keyboard to select the listed available options is working.
No option to 'Add to' and select a Mailing List
No option to 'Copy to' or 'Move to' another address book.
Cannot perform a copy to mailing list or address book or move to another address using keyboard.
Can only 'Move' a contact to another address book or add to Mailing list using mouse drag and drop but only in vertical view; neither function in Horizontal view.
Expected Result:
right click Option on selected contact to select 'Add to' and select a Mailing List
right click Option on selected contact to select 'Copy to' or 'Move to' another address book.
Ability to do this via select using mouse click or via keyboard.
- Select address book to show contacts.
- Right click on contact to see drop down menu options.
- Write
- Edit
- Add to
- mailing list name drop down list - if address book has any mailing list
- Copy to
- address book name drop down list
- Move to
- address book name drop down list
- Delete
- Select item in list
There should be a right click drop down option to:
- add contacts to existing mailing list(s)
- copy contacts to other address books.
- move contacts to other address books.
This should include a method that is accessible via a keyboard.
This should be available because it means people using keyboard can then select a contact and put them in a pre-made Mailing List or Copy or move contact to another address book.
Currently, I can use keyboard to select a contact, but cannot use it to add contact to a mailing list or another address book.

Thanks Anje. Imo, this proposal looks like a simple and discoverable way of eliminating several access and UX gaps.
- Moving contacts from one address book to another is currently not keyboard accessible in any way. Also note bug 553647 (only for single contacts).
- Bug 1756622 - Adding multiple selected contacts from address book to an existing mailing list is not keyboard-accessible (only available for mouse users via drag and drop).
- Adding single contact to existing mailing list is accessible, but inconvenient - cannot start from the contact, need to start by editing list.
Anje, could you give some more structure to your comment 0 by making the STR - Actual result - Expected result
scheme explicit? Also bullets and numbering may help for better overview. For more information, see the Markdown styling now supported link below the BMO comment input field.
