Steps to reproduce:

  • Open an already-configured Outlook.com account with Normal Password (App Password)
  • Switch the authentication method to OAuth
  • Open a folder in that account
  • Browser tab pops up, urging me to do OAuth

Actual results:

Said the page: "You can't sign in here with a personal account. Use your work or school account instead."

Expected results:

Allow me to complete the OAuth.

I've tried with the same MSA (Microsoft Account) on K-9 Mail (that's also in the Thunderbird family now, I guess) 6.400, and it seems to work well.

I've also tried a AAD (Work/School) account on Thunderbird, which worked.

It could be a AAD Application configuration problem. Also, K-9's OAuth client ID is listed here.

Bug 1685414 makes the necessary changes. You can try it on beta.

Can confirm that OAuth works for both MSA and AAD on Thunderbird beta 109.0b2.
