I swear we have bugs on this, but I can't find them. Basic problem: If I click on a link with an unknown protocol, there is no alert that says the protocol is unknown. Things work fine if I do the same from the URL bar. I kept this behavior while fixing bug 176904, but now that that is fixed we should change the behavior to be sane, imo.
