User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312 I added this newsserver (news://news.zoo-logique.org/xnview.english) as second (multiple) NNTP account and was not able to post messages on the first newsserver anymore. error message 1: A News (NNTP) error occured: No valid newsgroups in "de.comp.datenbanken.mysql" error message 2: Sending of message failed The message could not be posted because connecting to the news server failed. [... please check configuration, ...] Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Add the newsserver as second newsserver 2. Post a reply to the first newsserver -> error 3. Delete the second account -> post OK Actual Results: Step 2: error message 1: A News (NNTP) error occured: No valid newsgroups in "de.comp.datenbanken.mysql" error message 2: Sending of message failed The message could not be posted because connecting to the news server failed. [... please check configuration, ...] Expected Results: Send the reply to the first newsserver.
Sounds like a probable bug 54911 dupe. Is the first server available when you try to post to the other?
Re: #1 -> No duplicate (in my opinion) There are a couple of arguments which I see to handle this as a different bug: 1. I can't post to first newsserver anymore 2. Newsgroup on second newsserver is not available on first newsserver 3. Posting on first newsserver is disabled by adding a second newsserver -> this is (in my opinion) more severe than only sending to the first newsserver (instead of sending to ONLY the first Newsserver) -> no workaround needed, just remove second newsserver 4. My qouted two error messages are totally different, so it might be a totally different code segment I would like to know if this bug is reproducable? Can somebody please check the behaviour by adding the above mentioned URL as second newsserver and post the result? If this bug is reproducable and can be confirmed I think it should have a higher status (>= critical).
I'm seeing something similar. If I have two news accounts defined, on different servers, I am able to post only to the one defined latest (last). In my example I have a GigaNews account as the first in my list, and the second is news.software.ibm.com. I am able to post to the newsgroups on the IBM server, but any attempt to post to, say, comp.lang.java.programmer on the GigaNews account results in a dialog with the message A news (NNTP) error occurred: No valid newsgroups in "comp.lang.java.programmer" This indicates to me that Mozilla is attempting to post to the IBM server which has only IBM-related grouops, regardless of which group is actually being posted to. If I delete the IBM server account, I can then post to GigaNews.
Forgot to include my version info: Build: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007
I see this too, except the second message says that the connection is refused by the server. IMHO this is bad enough to be a 1.7 blocker. I do not think I had it in 1.6, but I do see it with 2004040204 on Linux.

Ah, the second message says "Could not contact the server news.xxxx; the connection was refused" when I was trying to post to a _different_ news server. So it is indeed picking up the wrong server! P.S. If I save it as a draft, then X-Mozilla-News-Host: is pointing to the correct server.
Summary: Added newsserver as second (multiple) NNTP account -> not able to post messages anymore. → Wrong news server is used on posting -> no longer can post from the second news account
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040426 update: reporter check with new version result: OK - bug is not reproducable anymore. details: I CAN post to both newsservers when I select a newsgroup on the wanted newsserver. A reply to another test post in de.test works fine too. result: OK I CAN NOT post if I select a newsgroup on the second newsserver and then change manually (type in) the name of the wanted newsgroup to the name of a newsgroup on the first newsserver. In this case I get error messages. result: This behaviour is OK and a WFM for me. RFE: This would be an enhancement bug if somebody wants automatic newsserver resolution. I CAN post if I select a newsgroup on the second newsserver and then change manually the name of the wanted newsgroup to the name of a newsgroup on the first newsserver AND the sender name from the one defined for the second newsserver to the one defined on the first newsserver. result: OK Because of these results reporter removes the blocking 1.7 ? flag.
Flags: blocking1.7?
No more posting problems with more than one newsserver.

(In reply to comment #9) > Bugs are not FIXED unless a patch has been applied to fix the bug or someone who > has applied a patch to some related bug marks it fixed. Felix, sorry for that misunderstanding. As the reporter of this bug I responsively checked comment 0 frequently to see if this bug still exists as reported. Somehow the behaviour as reported has vanished. My little newsserver zoo is working fine and I can post correctly to multiple mewsservers. I recommend to close this bug as FIXED. Who might be the one to do this? Can you please add him CC. Thanks for your attention.
Reporter, you may consider resolving WORKSFORME if you wish. See http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/bug_status.html. However, since others have commented about this behavior here, it is probably better for others to confirm your diagnosis in all the latest builds first. I may try to do that myself after 1.7 final, due RSN. I am using multiple servers and having posting problems, but they might not be this bug.
