The best example for me meaning can be found in the Increadimail program - it shows the percentage of the download and IN ADDITION it tells you how many messages are being downloaded, which in my opinion is an important feature. * My second idea, also taken from Increadimail, is to enhance the background activity of the mail program - perhaps make the Mozilla tray bar also search for e-mails for every X minutes you specify and than download them in the background, without actually the need of the mail program to be open.
