Details
* TITLE/SUMMARY
[PP] Color Mozillazine graphic (GIF) has white-on-black (1-bit) colorization.
* STEPS TO REPRODUCE
0) Using the 1.4.98 build of NGLayout, go to http://www.mozillazine.org or http:/
/www.mozillazine.org/image/title.gif
* RESULT
- What happened
The MozillaZine image appears as a black rectangle, with the web site name of
"MozillaZine" appearing simply as dotted border in white. (Hard to explain, but
easy to see.)
Normally, the background should be a gradient orange-like color steadily
diminishing in intensity towards the bottom of the rectangle, with the word
"MozillaZine" in solid black text.
Occurs on 8-bit, 16-bit and 24-bit video. (as set prior to the launch of
viewer.app, assuming it won't handle dynamic changes while running.)
- What was expected
Image to be displayed properly.
* REGRESSION
- Occurs On
viewer (1.4.98 build for Mac OS)
- Doesn't Occur On
viewer (1.4.98 build for Win32)
Navigator 3.04 RTM for Mac OS
* CONFIGURATIONS TESTED
- PowerMac 8500/150 (233 Mhz 604e), 64 MB RAM, Mac OS 8.5.1

Ah, this is occuring on transparent GIFs. (i.e. see the page headers on
www.prometheus-music.com/eli.)
I think this is a duplicate of another bug. Will go check...

This may be related to 1307, but I can't find a duplicate --- the problem in
question here is Mac-specific, and I can't reproduce on Windows.

This is technically a duplicate of 2152.
I'm not going to mark it as a duplicate (but defer to anyone who would like to),
since 2152 is a one-sentence stub bug, whereas this bug contains a lot more
information.
Thanks for tracking more info on this, Eli. It is a
big help. I'm going to reassign this bug to dcone who
also has bug#2152 and cc myself.

This still occurs with Jan 25 build on the Mac. Does not occur on Jan 25 Win
build.

A quick check of Mozillazine using the 2.1.99 build looks great.
I'm going to mark this as verified, since transparent GIFs are ubiquitous, and
I'm sure we'll all hear if some transparent GIFs still don't work. ;)

This bug and two others (dups #2549 and 2555) show incorrect rendering of
transparent images.
Using the 2/4 build testing on Linux, Mac 8.5, Win 95, Win 98, Win NT, I found
similar behavior on some platforms.
Open the URL http://www.search.com. At the top is an image (card.logo.gif)
inserted in a table as a link.
Expected result: Table containing image should render with a bgcolor of #FFCC00
(mustard color).
Actual results:
Linux - table background is black
Mac 8.5 - table background is black
Win 95 - table background is black
Win NT - OK
Win 98 - OK
Reopening bug.

Correcting comments - this is not a parity bug. This behavior occurs cross
