Imagine, that you make the same bookmark into multiple folders. If do you change any of them, the others will not change, and you have to find each one and modify each one, to have them modification synchronized to all dupe of that bookmark. Using linking, you only place a shortcut of the original bookmark and the others automatically inherits any modification you do to that original bookmark. Also would be fine, if the user would be able to list all the folders where a specific original bookmark has instances. From the same interface, would be also fine if the user could change the folders of each instance (i.e move to another folder). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Sounds like what was complained about in bug 169408, and finally fixed afer innumerous duplicates and 20 votes in bug 51683. Recommend WONTFIX.
I think, that earlier linked bookmarks was badly resolved. It may threated all duplicated (Copied & Pasted) bookmarks as instance of original bookmark of the URL. It gave no choice for the user, and I think that's why the users were complaining. Copy-Paste now does not create duplicate (instance). It is OK. But may have a context menu item, like "Make instance", which will be linked to original one, and all modifications would be applied to original one, and all instances of it. I think that way this feature would become useful & acceptable.
