User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.4.1) Gecko/20031030 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.4.1) Gecko/20031030 The font rendering is not proper it is missing where it has to mix two or more letters into one as per telugu language conventions, instead it is displaying all the letters as individually. Note: previoulsy yudit (www.yudit.org) has also the same problem but now it was corrected, so can we use those code bits or and logic? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open any UNICODE telugu site eg.. http://krsnadasakaviraju.rediffblogs.com, www.sahiti.org (you have to explicitly choose unicode in top right corner) 2. You can see the letters displayed improperly as rendering machine is not able to display these fonts as per convetions of telugu language. 3. Make sure u install Pothana2000.ttf font (download after google) and add support in mozilla configuration files. Actual Results: Fonts are not properly rendered . Expected Results: It should have displayed the fonts properly instead of individual alphabets. Please feel free to contact me for further clarifications.
can you post screenshot of what you see and possibly another screenshot of what to expect (with Opera, IE on Windows) ? Make sure to use latest Mozilla, 1.7rc2 as of now.
Sounds like a CTL issue...

This bug is just a part of complex script handling issue that requires platform-specific solutions. There are already working patches for Xft-build on Unix and Win32 build. See bug 215192 for the former and bug 218887 for the latter. For Mac OS X,see bug 121540.

BTW,if you want to try Mozilla-Xft with opentype font support, you can get my binary build available at ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.6/contrib/ (download the one with 'pango' in its name). Note that this build relies on Pango for complex script rendering. If Pango doesn't support Telugu, Mozilla doesn't either. See also http://www.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla1.6/known-issues-int.html

This is a screenshot of this page rendering with a pango build. Does it look OK?
I can read Telugu. The posted screenshot looks OK.
A wrong rendering with Seamonkey trunk 2006101708 on windows XP. It rendered correctly before installing the font.

Rendering OK except for consonant+consonant+consonant ending combination on Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.1) Gecko/2008071615 Fedora/3.0.1-1.fc9 Firefox/3.0.1. Windows everything OK.
Arjuna, can you test with a trunk build ? Lowering the severity as per the last comments.

Comment #8 is traced to problem with lohit-te font provided by Firefox. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=476427 Hence this issue can be closed.
