Choosing "Preferences..." from the Firefox application menu (or using the cmd-,
keyboard shortcut) when the "Downloads" window is in focus does not bring up the
Preferences dialog even though the menu item is active. Clicking the Preferences
button at the bottom of the Downloads window does bring up the download
Preferences correctly. This issue only occurs when the Downloads window is
active and in focus.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Choose "Downloads" from the "Tools" menu.
2. Choose "Preferences..." from the "Firefox" application menu.
Actual Results:
Nothing happens. The Downloads window remains in focus.
Expected Results:
The Preferences dialog should appear and come into focus.
Default theme.
In fact, no Firefox-Mac/20040529 menu items work when the Downloads window has
focus.

Setting blocking0.9? since the original reporter is on 0.8. To be honest, I'm
not sure if we should consider this a blocker for 0.9, but since it is kind of a
major problem, I'm setting blocking0.9? so that someone will look at it and make
the call.

See bug 227525, as it talks about this very issue in comment #1
This is a dup of bug 239218... deals with all tools (Download Manger, DOM
Inspector and JavaScript Console) all being non-functional...

I used to be able to get around this by putting the download manager into the
dock, with Firefox 1.0 this is no longer possible. If you don't have a browser
window visible there is now no possibility of opening a new window unless the
download manager is closed.

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041110
Firefox/1.0 (PowerBook)
Not only are the menus inaccessible, but the hotkeys for menu commands are as
well. When the Downloads Manager has focus cmd-n will not create a new window,
cmd-o does nothing, cmd-m will not minimize it.
If the Downloads Manager is the only window open, the only two ways to create a
new browser window are to 1) close the downloads manager; or 2) send Firefox a
url to open from another application.

All windows really should have a menu on Mac OS X. If there's no menu, either
copy the parent window's menu, or use a default minimal menu that provides
access to Firefox->*, Window->*, and File->*

the workaround for this is:
1.) minimize the download window to the dock
2.) focus another application (such as finder)
3.) cmd+tab back to firefox (you cannot click the firefox icon on the dock)
4.) hit cmd+n to get a new window
this'll allow you to get a new window if you have no others open but the
download manager. this probably trips me up at least once per day. very
problematic.
