The email client "Evolution" has a very nice feature, which I would very
much like to see in Thunderbird: It supports invocation of external programs
via a pipeline. The filter rule applies, for example, if the external program
returns zero or nonzero.
A similar idea might be to request, that incoming mail is piped through an
external filter that can, for example, change the headers.
A possible application for the feature would be to integrate a virus
scanner into Thunderbird. For example, I could integrate ClamAV or a
similar program.
