Icons for the following mozilla apps/supported extensions still are needed:
mail
editor
aim (netscape aim, not aol I suppose).
.html
.shtml
.js
.xpi
.http
.https
.gif
.jpg
.png
.tif
I don't know if we need to have all of them or not, but I've tried listing as
much as I know (I'm positive I missed some). I'll let you decide on what's
important/relavent or not.

Change to Netscape only since you mentioned aim.
I also added some other components/windows to the list. Most of the designs are
done but haven't converted to the .ico files yet.
added german to the list since I am going on sabbatica 03/20-04/28
All list Y=will have new icon(s), N= no icons will be provided:
Y. editor
Y. aim (netscape aim, not aol I suppose).
Y AddressBk
Y. manage Bookmark Window
Y. .html
N. .shtml (use same as .html)
Y. .js
N. .xpi --What is this?
N .http ( when this one is going to show? We never had any in the past)
N .https (same as above)
Y .gif
N .jpg (use same icons as the .gif)
N .png (use same icons as the .gif)
N .tif (use same icons as the .gif)
Target Milestone: M16
.xpi it's the same thing as a .jar file, but without signiture files. It is the
Netscape6's version of a SmartUpdate installer.
.http We register the extension in C4.x. It shows up when the user creates
(under windows) a shortcut with the command line starting with "http://".
M16 has been out for a while now, these bugs target milestones need to be
updated.
Other platforms beyond windows should have access to the icons.
I'm in the process of drawing some icons for these components.
Note: This bug is currently not nsonly and I am treating it as mozilla focused,
if anyone intends to have an nsonly bug it should be in bugscape.
Other icons that need addressing:
.dtd, .properties, .xml, .svg, .rdf, ftp:, mailto:, gopher: [not currently in
product, but maybe at some later date], smpt:, imap:, pop:.
http and https SHOULD NOT have the same icon. The security should be clearly
visible in the icon.
I will draw my icons as gif's and convert to icons later.
A few notes. Windows supports many resolutions for icons. We should support at
least: 16x16,32x32,48x48, probably 64x64. and x16c and x256c. For now, my
proposals will be 32x32x16 with transparency and no inverse [inverse isn't
supported in gif and i'm not going to try to explain it through other means].
WMP and IE5 supply:
16x16x16, 32x32x16, 48x48x16,
16x16x256,32x32x256,48x48x256.

if mozilla is to be widely used (and it's high-time it is), the having iconse to
differentiate (at a minimum) between browser and mail/news should be a very
urgent issue - we need brand recognition on the desktop pronto.
Technical issues might be more "important" from a technical standpoint, but this
is much more urgent from a "political" standpoint!
Give us some icons please. Having two identical icons in my quick-launch bar and
desktop is just confusing (and not cool).
Don't spam my bugs. I have prototypes in development. contact me on irc for a
preview.

Correct this bug is not nsonly, the ability to see different icons is release
agnostic and should help both Netscape 6 and Mozilla users. Both will use
different set of images as one is Ntescape branded and the other is a generic
Mozilla design. There is an equivalent bug on the nsonly side.
I am not a developer but I know that this reaches deep into platform specific
territory. E.g. in Win32, The fact that to the OS the different app windows are
really document windows makes things a bit more complex. Also you cannot
have .gif files there (execept for Linux I suppose), since these have to
be .ico's on Win32 and icl8/4 reosurces on MacOS.

It would be good if the https icon was the same as the http one but with a
little padlock icon on it. I assume these would also apply to .url files.
Also, the image files should not all have the same icon. IE differentiates using
a different colour for each, which I suggest doing to create a quick visual
representation. But we should also write GIF, PNG, JPEG or TIFF in really small
text into the bottom right of the image, for people who have extensions turned off.

Are you still shooting for 0.9 on this? If so please email drivers@mozilla.org
with a status on you progress. If not please retarget against a later Milestone.
Thanks.
