(This bug imported from BugSplat, Netscape's internal bugsystem. It was known there as bug #333840 http://scopus.netscape.com/bugsplat/show_bug.cgi?id=333840 Imported into Bugzilla on 02/04/99 15:00) I finally decided to start using IMAP regularly and I found the following bug(s): 1) Create a new profile and configure the mail server for POP 2) Create a new folder under the Inbox folder 3) Create some mail to go in at least one other folder (if none exists in any of the folders) 4) Change the mail server to IMAP via the preferences 5) Create a new online folder 6) Drag the folder you created in step 2 into the folder you created in step 5, an online version of the folder will be added 7) Click on any of the folders (especially one of the folders you added mail to in step 4), notice that the contents in the right hand pane do not change (bug #1) 8) Drag any offline folder to a new position, note that you get a bogus warning "A folder with that name already exists" (bug #2) There seem to be a number of other miscellaneous bugs related to this situation. For instance, in one case I believe I deleted an online folder but it didn't appear in the (offline) trash; when I tried to recreate an offline folder with the same name I wasn't able to - I got the "A folder with the that name already exists" error. When I restarted Messenger, I did indeed have an offline folder with that name (i.e. the Folder view had been corrupted).

NT4, Nova 10/20b. I was unable to reproduce the problems reported. Please answer the following questions so that I can try to reproduce. Question on step #2. When creating a new folder under the Inbox folder do you mean the new folder is a subfolder of the Inbox folder? Question on step #4. I created a new profile with a POP account, created some folders, created some messages, moved messages into the various folders. Then went to Preferences for Mail Servers, selected the mail server, selected the Edit button and changed it to an IMAP account. Is this what you did or did you delete the POP Server and Add an IMAP server? I was unable to reproduce the problems reported in steps #7 and #8. I also did not reproduce the problems reported in the last paragraph. In Preferences/Mail Server, select the mail server, select the Edit button, select the IMAP tab. In the "when I delete a message" section which radio button is selected? If the "mark it as deleted" option is selected then the online folder will be removed immediately (it doesn't go to the trash folder and it doesn't show a red "x"). If the online folder includes messages then it will show a warning that you are about to delete the folder and all its messages giving an "OK" or "Cancel" option. If "OK" is selected then the folder and all messages are removed immediately (it doesn't go to the trash folder and it doesn't show a red "x").
The new folder you create in step 2 should be a subfolder of the Inbox (though this may not be a necessity). In step 4 I changed the existing folder from POP to IMAP - I did NOT delete the old one and create a new one. The key condition, which I didn't emphasize in the bug description, is that the folder you drag in step 6 must be empty. There is no problem with dragging folders with mail in them. The specific final problem I mentioned only occured once and was only intended to be descriptive of a general "flakiness" I've experienced in using IMAP (particularly in the area of migrating from POP). I should note that I've tried to switch to IMAP several times before but always switched back to POP because of weird problems like these. If you are still unable to reproduce this problem I would be happy to demonstrate it for you.
I was able to reproduce all three issues. Should I just update this bug or create more bugs? All three issues are a result of manipulating an empty folder. I beleive this should be added to the list of bugs to fix in a 4.5 maintenance release, copying Marek. 1.This is a problem only on NT. Messages do not appear in the thread pane after dragging a blank folder from Local Mail to an IMAP folder that already has messages. The problem also occurs in reverse by dragging the empty folder from an IMAP folder to Local Mail. A workaround is to close Messenger and open it again. Collapsing and Expanding the Server does not solve the problem. 2. This is a problem on NT, MAC and Solaris 2.5.1. Drag any offline folder to a new position and the message "A folder with that name already exists" appears" when it shouldn't, press OK and the folder is moved. This problem occurs after dragging an empty offline folder to any online folder. Aftwards you are able to move a folder without an error/message. 3. This is a problem on NT, MAC and Solaris 2.5.1. Delete an offline folder and the message "A folder with that name already exists" appears, when it shouldn't, press OK and the folder moves to the Trash folder. This problem occurs after dragging an empty offline folder to any online folder. Aftwards you are able to move a folder without an error/message.

Drag and Drop support through RDF isn't going to be coming online to potentially after beta 1...triaging to m12.
I'm pretty sure that drag and drop won't be in PR1. If so, this bug can't be fixed until after PR1
Target Milestone: M12 → M14
No drag & drop in Beta 1.

Change QA Contact to me since it's my feature now
M15. We don't yet have drag/drop of folders, so we're not holding B1 for this.

post beta2...possibly post this release.
We still don't have drag/drop of folders yet. I'm going to move to target milestone future.

this seams so old.. tested part of it with gmail imap TB version 3.0a2 (2008072418) and tb 2.0.0.16 same -not migrate from pop to imap -creating empthy folder on any pop acc and dragging in imap and drag around does as expected, no issue -the bogus msg in step 6 appears when drag from imap back to original pop, but because the original folder is still there (drag to imap just created another not delete original). this may be abstracted for the specific case of same acc pop change to imap, where I did it for separate acc. till here, works for me. still, the essential issue may be to create in a pop and then change to imap. Whitch is somehow not natural. [on 3.0a2pre]I created gmail acc with pop, did all .., then chenged to imap in about config. The empty folder created under inbox is missing in view, but when dragging another empty folder named same from another pop, it doe nothing. On restart, there are all empty folders i played with, even the original (from pop) one. Server "command does not succeed" etc on restart they are ok. Apparently not reproducing. Essentially empty folders seam ok on moves etc. I'd say wfm (on tb)
