Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3 Build Identifier: Thunderbird version 1.0 (20041206) My ISP changed the username and password required to access their news server. I had saved the original username and password using Password Manager and I was allowed to view them and delete them, but there is no way to change them, nor to enter a new username or password even after deleting them. Even exiting and restarting Thunderbird does not change that. As a result, I am apparently locked out of news forever. Don't tell me to delete and recreate the news account unless you provide a way for all of .newsrc to be preserved across that action. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: As above. Actual Results: "News server error: You have no permission to talk. Goodbye." Expected Results: Password Manager needs to provide a way to change the usernames and passwords stored in it or enter new ones. Or at the very least, when I try to login to a news server after deleting the username/password from Password Manager, it MUST go back to prompting me for them.
Maybe related to bug 290805 -> Core bug 249240?
Oddly enough, a day later, while in the middle of reading _mail_ (I haven't even clicked on the news account), I'm being spontaneously asked for the news server username and password, not just once but over and over again. Hope this helps.
I think you're right, this is the same problem. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 249240 ***
