Hello, I am a convert to Thunderbird, and I have been OE free for 14 months
(Hi Tom!) I was using Eudora for quite a while. There is one feature in Eudora
that is not in Thundeerbird, and in my case, it is critical.
In Eudora, under the message filters, you can, like in Thunderbird, select
several options. Among those present in Eudora, and not in Thunderbird, is the
option to "autoprint", and even more importnat, to "Notify application".
I work in the engineering department of a radio station in Michigan. We now
receive critical emails from many agencies, including the Michigan State police
for Amber Alerts. I use Eudora in the newsroom, as I can set up the filter using
the subject line, and/or the "from" line to trigger the autoprint, and then I
also click on "Notify Application", which triggers a simple batch file, which
outputs an ascaii string to a dedicated rs-232 port, which then drives an
external relay box. This can then trigger bells, flash lits, whatever.
I would think in many peoples uses, they would like to have an autoprint on
certain emails, and please look at the need of those of us who have to get time
sensitive information on the air as soon as possible. We have to KNOW we ot the
email, and the Eudora way works just fine. We do need a way to autoprint, and
trigger an external box, either through the rs-232, or prefered, via a USB relay
box.
And I thank you for your time.
Reproducible: Always
