User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5 Below the status bar I have a blank space equal to the size of the Top toolbar section. There seems no way to reclaim this area. It seems as if the toolbar area is trying to duplicate itself at the bottom of the firefox window. On the left of this area is a small red ^ Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Resized window 2. Checked settings 3. Actual Results: Nil
Try running Firefox in the safemode: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode_(Firefox) If this doesn't help, try deleting your install directory (default location C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox) and installing the latest version: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/

What extensions do you have installed? Do you have the "Linky Extension"? Does the problem go away if you disable it?
No linksy extensions installed. At this point it appears the problem occurs because some elements of Firefox remain after it is shut down. I uninstalled 1.5 and reverted back to 1.0.7. The problem persisted. I then used "Kill Firefox (tskill.exe)" utility and when I reopened Firefox the gap had disappeared. I have not tried this with 1.5 as the Kill Firefx utility may have adverse affects as it was written for ver. 1.0.*. This bug of Firefox not fully closing has been around for a while, just never had this affect before.
If you run Firefox 1.5 in a new profile and install only compatible extensions, no other program will be needed to close Firefox properly. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager#How_do_I_create_a_new_profile.3F
The space problem is solved by uninstalling all extensions. Now the problem is I cannot install ANY extensions. An error message saying consult the Java Console appears. (Java has been updated)
Kevin, Creating a new profile will probably help. New profile: close Firefox, click on your Windows Start button and type %appdata% in your Run box. Rename the folder Mozilla and start Firefox again. After closing Firefox again you'll see that Firefox has made a new folder Mozilla. Open the renamed Mozilla folder and copy the following files (if present) to the same spot in the new folder, overwriting the newly created default files: # bookmarks.html (bookmarks) # user.js (preferences, self-made file) # prefs.js (preferences) # cookies.txt (cookies) # history.dat (history) # hostperm.1 (blacklist/whitelist) # signons.txt (passwords) # key3.db (passwords)
