User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060508 Firefox/1.5.0.4 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060508 Firefox/1.5.0.4 Description: for example, let's suppose we have a web page with the following text: "The award-winning, free Web browser is better than ever." Then I press the CTRL+F keys to open the Find toolbar. Then I type the following words: "the free browser" and the searchbox is colored in red, not finding anything ! This means that the search tool only searches for complete phrases, not individual words ! Desired behaviour: I would expect to be able to search both phrases and words, for instance: if I type in the searchbox "free web browser, better" then I would expect to underline "free web browser" with a color and "better" with another color. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.

I certainly would not want the full string search (phrase) behavior changed to look for each word independently. Though if another enhancement bug were opened to make that an option on the Find Bar, I would certainly vote on that. Potential problems are should colors be different for each word (how many colors), and how would feedback, if any, be presented when words are found or not found.

Whole word search is being implemented in bug 269442, but does not cover the feature you request in comment 0. Unfortunately we don't have the resources available to implement this feature and over the course of ten years, no real interest has been shown to want or implement this feature. If you feel this issue was closed in error, please feel free to re-open.
