User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060909 Thunderbird/1.5.0.7 - Build ID: 2006090918 Sorting message filters alphabetical should be possible. Reproducible: Always Actual Results: You have to sort filters manually Expected Results: Started by a button, filters should be sorted alphabetically. With many message filters, it can take very long to find a filter. If they are independent to each other, sorting is a good option. Another good option would be "Sort selected".
Maybe "\n" should be added to separator because rules could contain "name=\"".
filters need to get applied in the user-specified order, so sorting them is confusing - i.e., the order they're displayed in is very important. Instead of sorting, I think something like type to find would be better.
agreed. a type to find field at the top of the filter dialog that "filtered" the list down to matching terms would be awesome.
Hi, I'm the author of the 'duplicate' bugreport. Although I agree that order of the rules can be vital when you use a "specific to more generic" rules setup, I (and probably many others) simply use them to sort my mails by sender : one rule per person. The problem is that people change addresses over time and/or have multiple addresses (private, work, ...). Assuming someone sends me a message not filtered yet, I need to go through the list of 'names' to see if I already have a filter for given person so I can add the email address used to that filter. If none found I simply add a new one, and then have to press the up/down button a gazillion times to keep the list alphabetically sorted. Not having it sorted means I always have to scan the entire list each time a new mail comes in that is not trapped by the filters, so that's not an option either. I like the 'alpha-sort selected' button idea though... would allow for best of both worlds... My 2 cents. (thx for a great program btw !)
