The style of the selected <option> tag is not reflected in the <select> tag, but the option styles are displayed in the drop-down list.
Both Opera and Internet Explorer has this feature, but Safari for Windows does not have it.
I'm not sure if this is regulated in the CSS rules or not, but the feature would be useful or else it is necessary to implement a bit of JavaScript to change the style of the <select> tag.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
Visit http://www.bedug.com/BugTest/example1.html with different browsers (Opera, IE) to see.
Actual Results:
In the example the background of the selected element is always white.
Expected Results:
The background should be the color of the background set in the option tag.

Nils,
I'd like to point out this testcase
http://www.gtalbot.org/BrowserBugsSection/MSIE7Bugs/BackgroundColorSelect.html
which is passed by Opera 9.25, Opera 9.50 build 9770 and Konqueror 3.5.8 but not by MSIE 6 and MSIE 7 despite rendering (through the select) the color of the selected option. Ideally, it would be best for every browser to support background-color: transparent for the select.
Seamonkey 2.0a1pre rv:1.9b4pre build 2008020602 under XP Pro SP2 also fails the 2 testcases. So:

Everything suggests that this is a DUPLICATE of bug 79107 (see bug 354850, bug 354850 and also bug 56451).
Resolving accordingly
