+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #345129 +++ The kids love the "star" feature of gmail, and I think it's a more understandable than "flag" in this day and age. I don't know if gmail always creates a starred folder, or just does it the first time the user stars a mail, but I think we should do the latter. We might want to do something fancy like not do this if a pref is set, and automatically set the pref if the user deletes the "star" folder. We might want to also give the option to the user to create a virtual folder for a tag when the user creates a tag (though we'd need to know which account to do it for). That doesn't handle when they use an existing built-in tag like Important - but we might want to do something similar - create a virtual folder automatically (this might get annoying, so we might want one of those "don't do this anymore/do this automatically" dialogs the first time.
Severity: normal → enhancement
Summary: Rename flagged to starred, automatically create a virtual folder the first time the user star's a folder → consider automatically creating a virtual folder the first time the user stars/tags a message
(The above is from bug 345129.)
See bug379928 as a dupe of this. Note: that one states that wants *cross account* virtual folder ..
I think we should want something like this for TB3. Or search/view capability for starred, which, shockingly, I'm not finding any bugs requesting it.

Bug 363473, comment #1 also suggests a cross-account virtual folder for tags, just like Bug 379928.
Apart from gmail, another model to look at might be Firefox bookmarks Library, they also have a tags section that automatically lists all tags with their respective bookmarks.
Actually this should be a bug, instead of a feature. It's just mind numbing that this hasn't been fixed so far.
