When undoing from an empty state to a previous value, textboxes send oninput BEFORE updating to the new value. Compare this with textarea textboxes, which send the event after updating.
STR:
* Open the attached sample html file
* Follow the included directions
* Note the difference between textarea and input type="text"
This issue is likely the cause of Bug 304145 and possibly a few others.
This is fundamental behaviour and should work as expected. Then again, fixing it may break existing validation scripts.

This isn't a regression from 1.8, right? What does IE do?
It's a little odd that the behavior here is different...

Yeah.
I see the same problem in 1.8, so this isn't a regression. As for other browsers, Internet explorer doesn't support oninput at all, and Safari doesn't support oninput on the textarea, but handles the text input correctly.
Seems safe to fix.
