Many computer mouses have buttons for the back/forward process as well in file browser as in web browser and there is the method to skip pages by pressing ALT<- and ALT->, which enables a quick skipping, too. So i think the only real usable thing in the skipper is the new "v" which lists the past and following sites perfectly - good work! Could you please enable a second toolbar element just with this "v" one for users who want to easily skip back and forward with their mouse or keyboard and just need the small button sometimes when they jump across a big couple of pages, maybe in social websites when browsed through a big picture gallery and want to return to the profile now without seeing every picture once more?

Essentially an enhancement request, sounds like addon fodder to me.
Severity: trivial → enhancement

Summary: Back/Forward button is too bothering and needs an alternative → Make the history dropdown a separate customize-toolbars element (for people who want to hide the Back/Forward buttons)

They are hidden by default in Firefox 4.
