This has been a huge bug for me that has existed for over a year. I have multiple SMTP servers saved in my account settings with the first one listed and labeled as default as my home connection. I also have other server settings saved depending on other locations (and obviously not labeled as default). When I go to these other locations, my email fails to send as it prompts me with the 'Send Message Error'.
This is where the bug should be fixed as Thunderbird should try another location on the list or at least prompt me to choose an address saved.
The problem still persists if I change my current location to 'default'. When clicking send, the first saved smtp server in my list is the one displayed in the status/progress popup window even if its not defaulted. (Assuming this is where the bug is). So the only way around this bug I have found is to always have my current location be saved as the first one listed. This is extremely annoying as I have to always delete my first locations until the one I am at is the first one listed.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Have multiple smtp servers listed
2.Ensure the current location is not the first listed and defaulted
3.Try sending an email and you will see that the smtp server it is trying to send through is not the default but rather always and only attempts the first one listed.
Actual Results:
Failed Send
Expected Results:
Should at least always start with the default location then either try other smtp servers or prompt user for another to be chosen (would be good if many are listed)
This is not a bug, but a feature request. Marking as duplicate of bug 52384.
You might wanna use one of the extensions available until it's fixed:
