The horizontal bars bannered across the top of each item are shadowed by strange horizontal lines, which appear to be some manner of video error or echo (but are not in fact, eh coders?)... (Mozilla.org Nightly Build, April 12)

Looks like a rendering problem

Can't get on this site for some reason. Can you provide an attachment or example of the problem?
The 4-25-1999 build (Build ID 1999042408, Apprunner) yet exhibits the problems, aye. And, in chorus with beard's observation, Viewer has of late exhibited difficulty in loading Slashdot, often ending by hanging. Enclosing a screen-grab of the garbled material...
Unable to submit the attachment... the problem is documented in <A HRef="http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5480">Bug 5480</A>.

The banners and rounded corner borders on this page don't display correctly. Layout problem? CC'd gordon, because this page also seems to trigger the _Delay hang of death in NSPR.

This is exactly what should _not_ happen with a bug report. The origoinal bug report has turned into several different problems. As far as the reported problem of the rounded rect corners not being rounded, that looks correct to me (see HTML snippet below). That's also the way they look in IE5. As far as the page not loading well, both Navigator and IE have that problem as well. It seems to be their server, and it's certainly not a layout issue... <html> <head> <base href="http://www.slashdot.org"> </head> <body bgcolor=#006666> <IMG src="http://flotsam.slashdot.org:81/slc.gif" width=13 height=16 alt="" align=top> <FONT size=4 color="#ffffff" face="arial, helvetica"><B>The Price of Being Different</B></FONT> </body> </html>
Actually, let me revise this a bit. The problem with the rounded rect seems to be that the image (in the HTML snippet) doesn't load and so you see the image loading border (that's the recessed looking border). That's the same problem that the page doens't load. That's not a layout issue

I offer apologies if I have contributed to the confusion. The original report concerned a *rendering* error (thus I have reset the component to "Compositor"). Agreed, 't'is no layout issue. I am also *well aware* of Slashdot's problems... with the recent Katz/Colorado flood, we all are. However, Slashdot does tend to hang Viewer. I am enclosing an illustration of the problem, which is just as it was when I first submitted the report.

Thanks, the attachment makes it very clear what the problem is. Chris, I'm assigning it to you because it involves tables

Name me Gemini-B: this bug is a twin of 4523, which reports the misrender for Linux and NT. The judgment of demoting this bug to Duplicate status I leave to the harried karnaze@netscape.com.
Moving to M8.
