User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060308 Ubuntu/9.04 (jaunty) Firefox/3.0.11
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3pre) Gecko/20090223 Thunderbird/3.0b2
After I had changed my pop (and smtp) password for my GMX account (over the webinterface), Thunderbird didn't recognized that the pop password had changed! No Error message or request for new password! Just the message "there are no new messages on the server" in the notification area in the left corner!
I had to delet the old account password in the password manager! After restarting thunderbird the prompt appears for the new password!
Same Problem on my Desktop (ubuntu 9.04), thunderbird 3.0b2 too!
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. change your pop mail (or smtp) password from your mail service (i.e. GMX)
2. don't change the password in the password manager
3. try to connect to the mailserver
Actual Results:
"There are no new mails on the server"
no error message, no prompt for entering new password
Expected Results:
thunderbird recognized the changed account settings and ask me for the new password
I have two gmx accounts in thunderbird! Maybe the "no new messages" belongs to the second, not changed account!?

If login to POP3 server failed, "There are no new mails on the server" is not displayed. Message of "There are no new mails on the server" indicates login is successful. And next indicates username/password is really used.
> I had to delet the old account password in the password manager!

Changed password of which?
If (a) next is old "There are no new mails on the server" which still remains or message for other account, and if (b) login really failed due to password change, and if (c) phenomenon is no feed back of the error,
> Actual Results:
> "There are no new mails on the server"
it may be phenomenon similar to Bug 428611, Bug 429069, Bug 490140.
Get POP3 log and check protocol level flow first.

There is no -ERR in log. i.e. Any login(AUTH LOGIN etc.) is successful.
Ralf Niederhammer(bug pener), how did you know that your case is same problem as described in bug 428611?
Ludovic Hirlimann(who closed this bug as DUP of bug 428611), how did you know that this bug is DUP of bug 428611?

I read the bug description from 428611?!?! The logfile I added was after I 1. erased the old password from password manager 2. restarted thunderbird (3.0b2) and 3. entered the new password! It's stupid I know!

Changed summary to reflect current symptoms. Error message IS displayed (probably as a result of recent auth changes), but no prompt to enter new password.
Summary: no error message or prompt after changed password of pop mail account → no prompt after changed password of pop mail account

This does sound like a dup of bug 428611 - if anyone wants to try a nightly build, they could check if this is fixed in today's build.
