Evolution also has this, although a bit different, and a little too fast for the user to see. All Thunderbird has got is a boring status bar that ends with a "No new messages on the server". I find the msgbox pop up more interactive and informative. Sometimes information goes unnoticed with Thunderbird's current status bar. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Thunderbird. 2. Configure the users accounts, and input all information, e.g. passwords. 3. Click Receive email, if there are any email to be received, you will be notified only by a boring status bar. Actual Results: Email arrived, but not in an interactive way... Expected Results: Should have displayed a pop up msgbox with emails being fetched and eye-candy with a progress bar (Like Evolution or Outlook Express)

So you don't like Tools-> Activity manager ?

I certainly don't like it Tools -> Activity manager. What I meant was an eye-candy enhancement, not a console log. This is more of an eye candy request than the need of a huge list showing logs.

[1] better title? the title of this bug made me think such a display is NOT wanted. perhaps instead of ... - No pop-up msgbox with progress bar when fetching email ... something like the following ... - wanted: pop-up msgbox with progress bar when fetching email [2] make it optional i don't actually want such a thing [*grin*] but would not mind having it if i could easily urn it off. [3] make it non-modal if it DOES get added to tbird, please, make certain it is NOT modal. there are few things i despise more than info boxes that block everything until they get finished or dismissed. for the folks who read this and aren't familiar with what a "modal dialog" is, why they are sometimes needed & why some folks so dislike 'em, lookee ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modal_window [4] activity manager as comment 2 pointed out, activity manager is nearly useless for this purpose since you rarely know where any given item will be in the listing. take care, lee
