There's nothing I seem to do that manages to fix it. If I load Thunderbird on a different computer and access the same message from the server it looks fine. At least once, it got fixed by itself after a purge, but not always. This happens every few days... Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: unknown Actual Results: unknown

Wayne, yes, that solves the issue. Thanks! I've looked everywhere (other then the correct place) for something like that. It's still a bug, of course.. just one I can live with now :)
I have the same problem with Thunderbird 3.1.2 and Windows XP+SP3, or Windows 7 /X86. The problem seems to be worse with Windows 7. In my case, I have seven IMAP accounts in Thunderbird, with most of the servers running the qmail MTA. One of the IMAP accounts is with gmail, and another with Yahoo mail. The problem is very hard to reproduce consistently. Right-clicking the folder, properties, and reindex *sometimes* fixes the problem, and sometimes not. On restarting TB, sometimes the problem gets fixed, and sometimes not. What I do is use a different email client to move the offending mail to a different folder on the same server, restart TB, and move the mail back to the original location. If there is anything I can provide or do to help to get this problem fixed, please let me know.

I am using TB 3.1.10 with a German Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit. This mis-match between header and message body occurs on my system, as well. I started noticing it after installing the "BetterConversation" add-on and blamed it for the errors. However, I still get this behavior after uninstalling the add-on. I'm not sure how to reproduce it consistently, it just happens once in a while (albeit more than once per week). Instead of deleting/using a trash folder I just mark messages as deleted upon deletion so I use "Compact folders of this account" quite a lot to rid myself of the deleted messages. My mail provider is GMX, although I don't know what they use on their servers. What else do you need?
I have seen this same problem on several computers, all Windows XP or 7, from TB versions 3.x to 9.1. Most, if not all, of these are Gmail accounts connected using IMAP. Re-indexing the folder appears to fix it. I'm also not sure how to reproduce, but would be happy to provide a log of whatever sort would be helpful next time the problem arises. This appears to be the same as #533316 .
Do you still see this issue when using a current version of Thunderbird?

I've been using TB ever since I joined this bug report. However, due to smartphone and nowadays a separate work mail account (to be used with Outlook) I only need it occasionally on my pc. Bearing that in mind, I haven't noticed the problem for serveral years now.
