The underscore character is not visible in the location bar on win32. For
example, type in http://www.netscape.com/where_is_the_underscore.html and notice
that it looks like http://www.netscape.com/where is the underscore.html.
Okay on Mac and Unix

This is not a layout problem, it's a problem with the size of the location bar,
so I don't think it's Rick's problem.

I don't see this anymore. I think some one in the QA verified a dup of this bug
yesterday. So, marking it works foor me.

actually this would be a 'fixed' instead of 'worksforme'
The underscore character is visible now.
However, is it possible to increase the vertical height of the location bar just
a bit? It's still a bit small, and while it doesn't cut off at the bottom
anywhere, it's still a bit hazy and hard to read. IE and 4.x both leave a
generous amount of space and it seems to read more easily.
I will actually open another bug on this, come to think of it.

I can see the underscore in my yesterday's NT debug build. Is this a
problem only in Win98. How about Linux?

pratt, this looks ok for me on linux/win95, can you provide radha with more
info?

Using today's build (1999092208) I see the problem on Windows 98 but not Windows
NT. radha stopped by yesterday to talk about it; she know's what's up.

Tague,
I spoke to cpratt about this. This bug happens only in us-intl keyboard.
Lookingat the discussions in 6053, I think this is probably a dup of that.
Letting you decide it. Reassigning to you. Please note '_' is visible and usable
in us keyboards.
Thanks,

FWIW I'm not sure what this has to do with the US-International keyboard layout.
Both my Windows 98 and Windows NT machines use that layout; even stranger,
although the character is not visible, it is logically there (if you type in a
URL that has the character in it, it loads correctly even though you can't see
the underscore in the Location: control).

these came in too late in the m11 cycle to make it, moving to m12

reassign this to ftang. Tague is pretty doomed.

This bug may also have to do with bug 15314 - serifs are now being cut off as
well.

I'm using the 1999093012 build on WinNT with only the standard
US Keyboard and layout and I still experience the problem. The
whitespace in the textfield is plenty large enough - we just are using
all of it.

the underline in the font that we used in location bar is very low, lower than
the bottom of g ,y ,j.
If you use editor and select PREFORMAT, I think they use the same font/size. And
you can find the _ show wihtout problme in editor (or text widget) but in very
low position.
If you select some text in the URL bar, you will find out the distance between
the bottom of the highlight and the boundary are much more than the distance
between between the top of the hightligh and the boundary. This mean we caculate
the cliping region wrong.
Reassign this to rods since he reassign 15314 to himself.
I think the comment about the intl keyboard is not true and not related to this
issue here.

I see this on Win 98 SE with Standard 101/102 key Keyboard.
One thing I noticed, if you are selecting text in the location bar and move the
mouce up, it scrolls the text down, and if you move the mouce down, it scrolls
up.

I see the underline now. It was a combination of the GFX text control and
padding in the skin.css for xul. This is fixed.
