Details
This page has an example of GIF images with gray in them; these and other such
images look bad in NGLayout. Photographic images, however, look rather good. The
issue is that we sometimes assume 8bit when we actually might have a more
capable display.
Fixed yesterday (8/5), I believe. Looks fine to me under NT with the latest
build. Should like fine on Win95 as well. Re-open if it still looks bad

Verifying as fixed (1.22.99 Mac OS & Linux builds, 1.21.99 Win32 build.)
I do note that the gray background on the "Account Management" image
(acctman.gif) appears somewhat more pixelated and less smooth between the
different gradients of gray than the same image as viewed on 4.5, upon a close
comparison.
I am assuming that the problems Angus encountered were substantially more
pronounced than this, and am thus marking the bug verified.
