We have new machines/PCs/workstations and we should/want to use Openoffice instead of Microsoft Office. But in this case we need to change the mail client, too. We want to import our previous mails from Outlook 2003 by using Thunderbird. At some of the imported e-mails we find no problems at all, the character recognition of Thunderbird works perfectly. But other imported mails present some problems. This Hungarian version of Outlook and Thunderbird, too use ISO-8859-2 encoding by default. We encounter the problem when for example we send an UTF-8 email to Outlook (it appears perfect in Outlook) then we import the email by Thunderbird. The imported e-mail is recognized as Windows-1250 coded. Due to this the Hungarian characters appear wrong: árvíztűrőtükörfúrógép/ÁRVÍZTŰRŐTÜKÖRFÚRÓGÉP So the imported email appears with Windows-1250 encoding by default in Thunderbird but if when we choose UTF-8 manually the e-mail appears with right characters. The imported e-mail contains a message in the thunderbird/view/message source: Content-Type: text/html; charset=windows-1250 When I download the same email from the server directly (by using Thunderbird), this message (Content-Type: text/html; charset=windows-1250) does not appear: thunderbird/view/message Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset=utf-8 I have also tried to import the email from Outlook 2010 with Thunderbird - the same result. This current mail is being succesfully imported from Outlook by Em-client (www.emclient.com) - I am not having any problem with character encoding. But I do not want to use emclient.  I believe this guy from Japan has encountered similar problem: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=1954325 Import from outlook has wrong character recognition. utf-8 ISO-8859-2 windows-1250 migration from outlook Imported mail from outlook contains not valid content-type in the message source. Whiteboard: dupme?
I think that the proposed patch for Bug 207156 fixes this.
Depends on: 207156

(In reply to Mike Kaganski from comment #1) > I think that the proposed patch for Bug 207156 fixes this. This was fixed in version 6 circa 2011-06-28. Roland, do you still see this problem?
