Initial Copy Requirements: Page Template: http://www.intothefuzz.com/leetom/Mozilla.com/JPG/firstrun_11.jpg On the right hand side, we can make the bullets link to be the following: 1. Participate & Give us Feedback (Link to the happy/sad page) http://input.mozilla.com/en-US/happy http://input.mozilla.com/en-US/sad (checking to see if there's a happy & sad in one page. 3. Check Our the Firefox Channel Page (link to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/channel/) Still TBD Requirements: - message in the main copy area - newsletter field (signup for the channel newsletter?)

Assigning to Matej. What basic message would you like us to convey in the main content area? And what about the email signup field?
Assignee: tshahian → Mnovak
main copy area should include - instructions how to provide feedback(similar to what we had in Firefox 4 beta) - brief introduction on Aurora (similar to the firefox channel page) - small promo for mobile beta - include sign up for channel newsletter (similar to the firefox channel page) thanks.
Thanks Grace. Matej, let's talk when you're back tomorrow. (please ping me)
A few thoughts/questions: re: comment #0 - probably need a single link for input rather than separate ones for happy & sad - what's the CTA for the Firefox Channel page? in other words, why would someone who just installed the beta want/need to go there? would it be better to replace this with happy/sad links instead? re: comment #2 - why are we introducing Aurora to people who just downloaded the beta? seems confusing. - seems like we should have three smaller promos across the bottom for the Aurora intro, mobile beta promo and channel newsletter signup.
(In reply to comment #2) > main copy area should include > - instructions how to provide feedback(similar to what we had in Firefox 4 > beta) What, exactly, are the instructions for providing feedback? Can I have a look at the Fx4 beta page you reference? Thanks!
Following up on comment 5, could the main area be a quick intro and then how to provide feedback, which would include the happy and sad links? That way they wouldn't have to live in the right hand column.
talk to slater yesterday. instead of using the initial first run design, we will go with the new template provided by the creative team: http://intothefuzz.com/leetom/Mozilla.com/JPG/whatsnew_06.jpg which changes the initial requirements and also resolve the few questions mentioned above. 1. Feedback - screenshot and instructions how to send feedback (where the app tab screenshot is with the template) 2. Good recommendation on using the smaller promos at the bottom for the Aurora, mobile beta and channel newsletter 3. Main area: quick intro and instructions how to provide feedback. You also asked for the old fx4 beta page... I can't find the link for the old fx4 beta page. John, do we save that somewhere? However, Copy we used before includes: Click the feedback button to give us immediate input. (then we see the screenshot of the feedback button on the top right window) Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any additional questions
Thanks Grace. The info in comment #7 is helpful, but it'd also be good to break down the page for Lee & Matej a bit more since they weren't in our conversation yesterday. Here's my starting pass at that, but please add to it as you see fit: Overall structure: - base on the What's New page as noted in comment #7 Main promo area: - goal: standard intro (thanks/welcome) + info on how to give feedback - generally should follow the visual model of the new What's New page, where we have a sexy screenshot of the feedback button so people will know how to use it. In this case, the screenshot may not take up as much real estate, but I think that's a good way to go. Smaller promo #1: - email signup Smaller promo #2: - mobile promo? need more guidance here Smaller promo #3: - Aurora promo? feature-specific promo? something else? need more guidance here

Also, re: the existing page, I'm in the beta channel so I see it when I visit this page: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/4.0.1/whatsnew/ Not sure if that's the case for everyone else (I hope not, b/c ideally people will start seeing the new version of that page once 4.0.1 is officially released). Attaching a screenshot just in case-

Download and give us feedback! > > Smaller promo #3: > - Aurora promo? feature-specific promo? something else? need more guidance here - Check out other Firefox channels! (link to /firefox/channel) or something around... want to experience and test features even before beta? Check out Aurora/Check out other channels available.

Copying Winston to advise on the email signup issue from comment #10. Otherwise, Lee & Matej...do you have enough to start with here?
I can start laying out the page and just FPO the copy until I get revs from Matej. Should the Feedback button look different than the one I see from my Mac version? If there's another one that's more desirable, please let me know! ...or better yet, if someone could provide a screenshot for me - I'd appreciate it!
I think we'll basically need to do the usual screenshot drill, where you do one with your Mac and then the Silveorange folks finalize on other platforms. Grace, in Fx4 the optional feedback button says "Feedback" vs having the happy/sad faces. Is that what you want to show?
(In reply to comment #14) > I think we'll basically need to do the usual screenshot drill, where you do one > with your Mac and then the Silveorange folks finalize on other platforms. -attached. not sure if tahts sufficient. > > Grace, in Fx4 the optional feedback button says "Feedback" vs having the > happy/sad faces. Is that what you want to show? - it will be a feedback button
If we're going to include three email opt-ins, we'll need some context around each newsletter - at least a sentence near the check box so we can tell the recipient what they're signing up for... otherwise, we'll confuse them. Having said that - we have the specific CTA for the channels. I'd rather use that CTA to drive them to the channels URL - get them to download - and then they can sign up there. If they haven't downloaded aurora, the aurora newsletter content isn't going to be relevant for them.
i agree with winston. but i think it would be great to have the newsletter sign up there since it's a pretty high traffic page, so if we need to put a short blurb that's fine. another way, is that we can also include some bulleted info about aurora, in the aurora promo.
We'll have about as much room as the lower left promo on http://www-trunk.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/4.0/whatsnew/. Would really rather not expand beyond that. With that in mind, how should we proceed?
Grace and I just chatted about the email section. One CTA for the beta newsletter. No mention of Aurora newsletter on the email opt-in. Do add in the line about beta newsletter is for both mobile and desktop. So the layout will be exactly like what we have on What's new with updated copy.
Hi all, Here's a mockup so we can reference pod real estate, word count etc. http://intothefuzz.com/leetom/Mozilla.com/JPG/firstrun_Fx5Beta_01.jpg Most of the copy is FPO. Also, let me know your thoughts about the screenshot and Feedback dropdown graphic. Thanks! Lee
this looks good lee! thanks! the screenshot looks good.. although, is that the same drop down we have with the aurora build? other than that, i think this template looks great!

The screenshot looks good, but users should actually see the "happy sad/faces" See screenshot of aurora build (should be same UX for beta).
(In reply to comment #19) > Grace and I just chatted about the email section. > > One CTA for the beta newsletter. No mention of Aurora newsletter on the email > opt-in. Do add in the line about beta newsletter is for both mobile and > desktop. So the layout will be exactly like what we have on What's new with > updated copy. Working on copy, shouldn't be too much longer, just one question in the meantime: Would it make more sense to put the mobile promo first? Otherwise we're mentioning that the newsletter is for desktop and mobile, but we haven't mentioned mobile yet. It also gives the page a better flow: Desktop > Mobile > Newsletter > Aurora/channels What do you think?
I'm not a web design guru, but I think we have higher CTR rates with whatever is in the left hand corner. I think this is why the newsletter is in that position because we want people to sign-up, but I might be making this all up. I think its probably best to keep the newsletter in that position, but thats just me. Anyone who knows more about this have a different opinion?
Here's the copy, with options in some places. Let me know if you have any questions or feedback. MAIN PROMO AREA: [HEADLINE] Welcome to the Future of Firefox Help Shape the Future of Firefox The Future of Firefox is in Your Hands Welcome to Beta Land [COPY] Thanks for helping us make our next version our best yet. Click on the feedback button to give us immediate input. SMALLER PROMO #1: [HEADLINE] Get Beta News! Stay in the Beta Loop! Thanks for the copy, Matej! Thanks for the correct Feedback pulldown, Laura! (I think it would be good to have the Happy Face highlighted here but we can ask web dev to implement when they do their round of captures) Another mockup here: http://intothefuzz.com/leetom/Mozilla.com/JPG/firstrun_Fx5Beta_02.jpg
Thanks for this. For the mobile promo. I like: HEADER: Take Beta to Go COPY: Give feedback and help shape Firefox Beta for mobile! [I wanted to make it less about the act of giving feedback, but rather, the importance/cache of giving feedback.] CTA: Go mobile
Lee: Looking great! Caitlin: That looks good to me, too. At the top of the page, do we want to say "Firefox 5 beta?" Aren't we dropping version numbers? Either way, Beta should be capitalized.
Please drop the "5"
Awesome. Please remove "Beta" from the copy so it reads"Give feedback and help shape Firefox for mobile."
