As I'd promised rickg, I'm logging this bug that I discovered while reading ASCII art in viewer. Specifically, it seems like some arrows that are drawn like this: <--> are being truncated to <->. That is, when there are exactly two dashes following an open-angle-bracket, they are replaced with a single dash. (Take a look at the same file in 4.5.)

As a matter of fact, there are always n-1 dashes, i.e., <-> is getting displayed as <>, and <---> is displayed as <-->, so and so forth.
