Apparently Opera has this feature where a user can request a page to reload at a
user specified frequency (n minutes). A friend of mine thinks this is a great
feature for things like stock quotes, or an auction bid summary screen.

Perhaps some kind of "auto reload" sidebar should be made. Then you could
specify in the sidebar the auto reload time etc..
Does the sidebar have access to the main navigator window?

I've started to work in this way, by writing a sidebar.
I would release a patch soon, but I don't know what are
the 'rules' to make this reviewed.

francois. The process would be to rassign this bug to yourself and then attach
a patch to the bug and request review.

I retarted considering this bug.
I currently have a sidebar panel ready for this feature.
I'll post a patch in the next days.

Here's my patch for auto reload panel preview.
Should be used in the mozilla dir to update ./locale and ./chrome content.
Works with release 0.9.4
Don't forget to extract jar file contents from comm.jar and en-US.jar before
patching and update them after. (I don't know how to work without jars)

can't you create an xpi?

I don't think an xpi would help as long as it's not fully indepedant and
the panel list and langages are stored in existing chrome .jar files.
But I'm new. Maybe it's possible to override chrome files with another jar ?

There has been some discussion of visual indication of new sidebar tab content.
This would be applicable to tabs such as ``News'' and auction bid summary-type
tabs as originally reported. CC'ing Todd.

I had a quick look at the mozilla code, and it seemed that nsIURLRefresh could
be useful here.

Tabwise timed reload / visual
I don't think that there should be any sidebar for timed reloading. It's some
sort of an overkill.
Since the reload should be tabwise, it should be connected to the tabs. This
means it should be available via the context-menu of the tab.
The icon on the tab could then shift to a tiny little stopwatch to indicate the
active timer (or the tabs could have a stopwatch by default).

Tabbrowser Extensions is doing this feature already. In some sense this is a
bad development since Mozilla will probably lose impetus to add this feature
because TE is so good, and that means that for the ordinary user who doesn't
download extensions to his browser, he will not have it available. I hope some
discussion of this can take place, as this is one of the best features to
interest new people.

This bug has languished long enough. Now that Mozilla is targeting end users, we
need a new killer feature. The sheer number of dupes in this bug testify to how
badly users want this feature. This should NOT be that hard to implement. You
take the code that's attached to the Reload button, automate it, and allow a
user to turn it on or off and specify the rate of refresh.
Marketing-wise this would be fantastic: we call it Mozilla Auctioneer or
something like that because that's what it is, a perfect complement to auction
sites.
Tweaking the bug title to hopefully garner more interest.
Asa, I'm marking this 1.7a in hopes that someone can get this done by then. With
IE implementing pop-ups soon, we need all the killer features we can get. I'm
cc:ing you in hopes that you can rally the troops; if not, I understand if you
future it again.

Anyone, is there the possibility of Mozilla absorbing the Tabbrowser extensions
into the main app?
