Details
Build:
Mac May 21 Seamonkey build (1999052108) installed on PPC 8500/150 OS 8.5.1
Linux May 21 Seamonkey build (1999052108) installed on Compaq P200 Redhat 5.2
Problem:
Seamonkey locks up/freezes while rendering news articles. You generally can
select the first message if it is small but when you select the 2nd news
message, the applications stops running. On Mac, I had to force quit
(control+command+esc) to quit the problem. On Linux, I must kill the process.
According to Seth, he has experience similar problems on Mac and Linux. Win32
appear to be ok. If you view the tempAricle.eml file that Seamonkey uses to
render the message, you should see that the message is only partial. Smaller
messages are more likely to load than larger messages.
Steps to reproduce problem:
0) Configure your prefs50.js for NNTP and use news.mozilla.org as your news
server. I previous subscribed to Netscape.test as my newsgroup.
1) Start Apprunner
2) Open Messenger through the Task menu
3) Double click on the new server icon/name
4) Select your newsgroup
5) Click on the Get Msg button
Wait for a few moments while the newsgroup is populated.
6) Select a small news article
It is displayed ok.
7) Select another news article
The application stop responding.

marking for m6. my guess is the bug is lurking in nsNNTPProtocol.cpp. we get
into a bad state where we think the server is going to send us more data, but it
never does, since it thinks it has sent us the entire message. (that's my guess
for now.)
When my machine gets into an unresponsive state, I have to force quit or restart
my Mac. In today Mac May 24 build (1999052408-m6), it appears to be worst. I
can not load a single News message. In the previous build, I was able to at
least load a single news article, a small one.

I think this is a duplicate of 6883.
if so, it will be fixed in the may 25 / m6 build.
I'm marking this verified based on my testing today (5_25 build)...Lisa or
Peter, please reopen if your results differ....
I agree with you. I've been using the Mac May 25 Seamonky build(1999052516) and
have not crashed once. Great work Seth! I can read news :)
