There doesn't appear to be a preference for how to handle e-mail where return receipts are requested. With NC 4.7x, you had a preference setting under Mail and Newsgroups for Return Receipts. "When I receive a message and someone requests a return receipt ( ) Never return a receipt ( ) Return a receipt for some messages [Customize]" This could be a dup of bug# 56377, but it is unclear by the description what that bug really refers to.

Return receipt functionality is out for at least the next release of both Mozilla and Netscape. The main tracker bug for Return Receipts is bug 16241. Unfortunately, that bug doesn't list this instance specifically. Re-assigning to Sheela, who owns that tracker bug. Sheela, not sure what to do with this, you might want to make bug 16241 dependant upon this bug.

Could somebody describe (not in detail) what still has to be done? I've seen in the source that a lot is already in place for the SMTP protocol and the prefs page described by the reporter is already in place in the expanded chrome/messenger dir, but not in the JAR. Maybe I can be of some help. btw. the Platform and OS should be changed to ALL/ALL

Shouldn't this be marked with keyword 4xp since it is a feature of 4.x? Also there is no target milestone set. Not to be annoying, but I'll repeat Ronald's question from last March -- How much work remains to be done on this? Is it just the matter of implementing a pref and adding an if statement or two to the get mail code? Or is there some bigger issue that I am not aware of?
