As part of the PSM 2.0 project, the preferences for security related tasks will be integrated into the normal preferences UI. There will be a number of panes to cover the complete set of values. In addtion, some of the preferences that are currently presented under "Advanced" are security related. This bug proposes adding a "Privacy and Security" top-level preference item. The "Images", "Passwords" and "Cookies" entries from advanced would move there. The new item should have a well-known id value (e.g. "securityItem") so that the PSM module can overlay additional preferences into this new structure.
->ben :) since he had whipped up a Security Policies panel oh so long ago...

wait, would ben's Security Policies panel be a child of this new category --or was Security Policies the old/original name for this? see bug 43501 and bug 38966... if yes to the latter, then this might be a dupe of bug 38966 [or vice versa, if you prefer the name Privacy and Security].
Client Certificate Selection should be on another panel. Ben is opposed to the prefs dialog being larger than a certain size.
I agree with timeless. the panels here look a bit overcrowded for the default size. I won't be providing any fixes for this bug in this release cycle as I am currently overwhelmed with other bugs. However please attach a patch and I'll be glad to review.
The screenshot is intended to show the general reorg of old and new prefs. We understand that we may need to move items to result in appropriate window sizes, etc. The changes will come in two parts: 1) add the new "category" and move existing prefs there 2) add new prefs from PSM (as an overlay). I'll post patches for the reorg first, possibly next week.
mpt, what do you think of this idea? It would give a home to some commonly requested prefs, and it would make Advanced smaller, making it easier to potentially remove Advanced in the future.
Summary: Add "Privacy and Security" parent category → Add "Privacy and Security" parent category to prefs
shall i dup bug 38966 in favor of this one? they seem identical...

interesting --looks like this has already been added, as of 2001.04.13.08 [viewable on linux comm bits, but there's bug 75921]. should this be resolved? in any case, haven't gotten a response re: bug 38966. should this be dup'd against it anyhow, or what?
looks like Terry should own this bug as part of PSM2.0 work. reassigning. once this category appears, xpapps can own moving cookies, passwords and forms to it if appropriate.
