Build: 04-04-2001 Linux trunk
Not reproducible on Windows.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Launch the trunk build and go http://home.netscape.com
2. Go to the bottom of the page and click the country links e.g. Japan, French,
German ...etc.
Result:
Will get an error message:
The requested URL /international/main.temp was not found on this server.
But if you type in http://home.netscape.com/ja in URL will get the Japanese page
though.

Actually, it existing on N4.7/N6.01 Linux also, so I'll re-assign it to lynnw.
Lynn, please change the assign person if I am wrong, thanks!

I'll check on Linux, but what is strange is that there is no such thing as
main.temp. There's main.tmpl....

Marking nsbranch- as it was decided in the August bug triage that we wouldn't
have enough time in eMojo to fix this. Let's revisit for MachV. Reassigning to
Evelyn as Lynn has left the company

Cindy, this is a server bug. Did Evelyn confirm that it cannot be fixed in this
release? removing nsbranch-

Cindy, this comment doesn't apply at all to this bug... Evelyn, any update?

FYI, I've asked George McMullen to look into whether anything in the homepage
code could be prompting this error to occur.

removed keyword nsbranch since it now has nsbranch-, per pdt mtg.

I imagine this will happen on Sun systems as well as Linux, using any browser.
If a system is configured to look at NIS before DNS for a host name lookup, it
will be pointed to the international intranet site (beetle.netscape.com). For
example:
# ypcat hosts | grep international
206.222.253.184 international international.mcom.com international.netscape.com
206.222.253.184 international international.mcom.com international.netscape.com
# ypcat hosts | grep 206.222.253.184
206.222.253.184 international international.mcom.com international.netscape.com
206.222.253.184 beetle beetle.mcom.com beetle.netscape.com
206.222.253.184 intl intl.mcom.com intl.netscape.com
206.222.253.184 intl intl.mcom.com intl.netscape.com
206.222.253.184 beetle beetle.mcom.com beetle.netscape.com
206.222.253.184 beetle beetle.mcom.com beetle.netscape.com
206.222.253.184 international international.mcom.com international.netscape.com
206.222.253.184 intl intl.mcom.com intl.netscape.com
206.222.253.184 international international.mcom.com international.netscape.com
# nslookup international
Server: islay.mcom.com
Address: 198.93.92.5
Name: channel.mcom.com
Addresses: 207.200.86.98, 207.200.86.65
Aliases: international.mcom.com
# nslookup 206.222.253.184
Server: islay.mcom.com
Address: 198.93.92.5

To fix this problem, NIS must be changed to reflect international's new address.

According to Ops this should only affect internal computers. I have asked
internal computing to update NIS so it matches the entry in DNS
Comment 13•23 years ago

Internal computing says they have changed the NIS settings, so the bug should be
resolved in theory. Could someone who was experiencing the problem please test
it?

On my new installed Linux7.1RH-Ja, it works fine right now. And I checked one
other machine here which had same problem before, also couldn't see the problem.
So looks like it get resolved by the changes of NIS settings.
