I am experiencing symptoms similar to bug 68695 on Moz 0.9.1 build 20001060506. This has occurred on previous versions as well, though I don't have that build information. I have set up a new account, to attempt to eliminate any possible configuration issues, and it occurs on the new account as well. I can reproduce this every time. Testcase: Open mail Double click on mail item to open it in a new window. Click the 'delete' button. The button moves, but the message is not deleted. I should also note that the 'next' and 'print' buttons do not work. A rihht-click and delete will work.
The delete button work's on 0.8.1, but seems to have first broken, for me at least, at 0.9.0.
Is this with the delete button on the keyboard, or in the 3pane?
The delete button on the 3pane does not work. A right click in the message body -> delete works. What is the keyboard shortcut? Neither ALT-D nor CTL-D deletes the message.
Try creating a new profile that should fix the problem.
I have removed the .mozilla directory from a test id, and restarted Mozilla. I then redefined the mail parameters. (Is there a profile manager in Linux similar to the one in windows?) The delete button still does not work. Let me be a bit more specific on what seems to tickle this bug. If I leave the 'default' mail threepane up (folders on the left, inbox on the top, and selected message on the bottom), then the delete button works. If I double click on a message it will open that message in a new window. The delete button in that new window does not work, nor does any button to the right of the 'file' button. The important key seems to be that the message is in its own window.
The "Delete" key on keyboard sometimes does not work. I don't know the exact detail to reproduce but this situation occur quite frequently. (Win2000,Build2001062611)
Marking NEW.

I have also experienced this bug, however I was able to resolve it by performing the following steps: Closing Mozilla Locating and Deleting the files named Trash and Trash.msf Restart Mozilla It would seem that a corrupted trash folder may cause the delete button to cease functioning.
Pretty confident this is a duplicate.

Deleting the Trash and Trash.msf files did not seem to fix the problem for me. I can get the delete button to work in the following odd manner: 1 Open up a mail item in its own window. 2 Right click on the item and select delete from the menu box. The next mail item is displayed. The delete button now works. The button only seems to fail the first time it is used from a new window.
This bug seems to have been fixed in 0.9.2.
