UX guides I defined for snap view
1. If the content takes more than 1 screen to display, use vertical scroll bar to help navigate. Horizontal scrolling is not efficient on a snapped phone-size screen.
2. Search result items should be customized for snap view. Our current approach is to use a small colored tile that shows "site favicon" and "page title".
We need to use visual differentiators for history items, bookmark items, and internet search items.
3. Search results should be contextual. The users should always be given best available options based upon their search. As consistent as the FX Android search, display the related search results first. If there is no result to match with, provide the users with internet searches options.
Stephen and I synced up some ideas on the combined app bar and search. I'm working on a detailed spec to demonstrate the behaviors I mentioned above. He will provide visual assets on smaller tiles soon.
Thanks!

The related UX work has been updated in separate bugs. The UX work for this bug is almost complete.
You can see the full-view transition here: http://cl.ly/183R3g3w0n40
The only thing I might need to add is the snap view overlay transition. But it should be very similar with the full view.
Stephen and I agreed upon on using normal tiles on a full-screen overlay, and enable scrolling when soft keyboard is in use.
In terms of visual design, Stephen has the explorations here: http://people.mozilla.com/~shorlander/files/design-specs-metro/metro-designSpecs-awesomeResults-splitView.html And the last two mockups are the direction we are going for.
